Password managers are sold per user to companies and per account to individuals, and the business seat is where the money is. Bitwarden is the cheapest of the five by some distance, thanks to its open-source roots, while Dashlane has quadrupled its business price since 2017 and 1Password has barely moved.

Bitwarden is the open-source password manager and the cheapest of the mainstream options by a wide margin: Premium is under $2 a month and a Teams seat is $4, roughly half what 1Password or Dashlane charge. Being open source also means it can be self-hosted for free, which none of its closed-source rivals allow.

Dashlane is a password manager for individuals and companies, sold per user for teams and per account for personal use. Its business seat price has quadrupled since 2017 as the product moved from a simple vault to a credential security suite it now calls Omnix.

Personal Premium cost $39.99 a year in 2017 and had risen to $4.99 a month, billed annually, by January 2021. Keeper is a password manager that leans harder into enterprise security certifications than its consumer-facing rivals, listing FedRAMP, FIPS 140-3 and ISO 27001 credentials prominently on its pricing page. LastPass is one of the oldest mainstream password managers, and the one whose reputation took the biggest hit from a string of security breaches disclosed in 2022. Its pricing page shows euros rather than dollars, and runs from a free single-device plan up to Business Max at €10 a user a month for unlimited SSO apps.

- Each plan gets a compound yearly rate of change between its first and latest observed list price within the last 36 months. The 6 and 12 month figures apply that rate to the latest price. Plans moving more than 100 percent a year are not projected, and a plan needs at least three observations spanning nine months. It is arithmetic on past list prices, not a forecast of what any company will do.
